Event details

Henry Brett was one of the city's great pioneers. From the time he arrived in 1862 his life was dominated by service to his new home as shipping reporter, publisher, owner of the Auckland Star, and an innovative publishing company.

His magnificent home and garden on the North Shore 'Te Kiteroa', was often open to the public and upon his death was gifted to the Anglican Church to be used as an orphanage.

He was a member of the Harbour Board, a city councillor and mayor. He had a keen interest in music and sang in several choirs for 50 years. His legacy is the magnificent Town Hall organ which he donated in 1911.

The Town Hall Organ Trust will conduct tours and demonstrate this significant gift to Auckland.

Presented by: Auckland Town Hall Organ Trust. The Town Hall is managed by Auckland Live.
