Details

On the Radar author Sandra Coney will take you on a tour of the site of the Piha radar station, part of a secret network of air force radar stations designed to protect New Zealand from invasion by the Japanese.

The station was linked to the Filter Room at Auckland Teachers College in Epsom.

Initially run by men, women were trained as radar operators - the first operations role for women in the air force.

After the war, this was the site of some globally important radio astronomy discoveries. The talk will tell the story through remains on the ground.
