Event details

Join George Farrant, retired Principal Heritage Advisor, to hear about the building proclaimed as 'Auckland's greatest theatre'.

The St James Theatre has had an interesting past with vaudeville shows, musicals, comedy, theatre, movies, dance, and royal command performances gracing its floorboards.

Its future is a bit more chequered since its closure in 2007. In recent years, withdrawal of finance for the planned adjacent multi-storey apartment block (which would have partially funded the completion of restoration of the theatre) leaves its future in a fragile state.

All Central Library events will be live-streamed regardless of Alert Level however, if Auckland is at Alert Level 1, attendance can also be in-person.
