Event details

Symonds Street Cemetery is the oldest municipal cemetery in Auckland. It contains the graves of many early settlers of immense importance to the development of the city.

For over 70 years this burial ground received the bodies of the city's illustrious citizens and its marginalised paupers and interlopers.

Edward Bennett tells an exciting and often surprising history of the lives, loves and tribulations of important and ordinary people and provides a glimpse into the Victorian way of death.

The walk includes stairs and sensible shoes are advised.
