Event details

Explore the hidden urban gem that is Smiths Bush, a magnificent remnant of kahikitea forest and cathedral grove of puriri.

Learn the fascinating story behind its preservation as told by tour guide and urban tree researcher Penny Cliffin.

The bush was first owned by Thomas Drummond (1849), but named after James and Catherine Smith, who owned and conserved the bush from 1909-1934 when it was acquired as a reserve. A moderate level of fitness is required.
