Event details

Leys Orchestra proudly presents a free family concert celebrating the orchestra's musical heritage and over a century of community music making. The Orchestra is facing its toughest challenge and is now without a home.

Leys Institute opened its doors 115 years ago, but the sudden indefinite closure of the Leys Institute building due to earthquake risk last Christmas has left a huge hole in local cultural life.

The concert will highlight personalities and stories from the orchestra's long history as part of Auckland's musical fabric for over a century. The programme draws on the orchestra's extensive music library, which includes orchestral music donated over many decades by orchestras and musical groups formerly active in Auckland's music scene.
