Event details

Join members of the Ōtāhuhu Historical Society to explore and discover the secrets of Ōtāhuhu/Mount Richmond.

This maunga has been part of the landscape since its volcanic eruption about 30,000 years ago. It has been the site of Māori occupation, a source of water to the township of Ōtāhuhu and extensive planting of trees. Views from the mountain show the story of the portage of waka, European settlement and land set aside as a canal reserve to link the east and west coasts of New Zealand.

The walk is undulating and on uneven ground so some level of fitness is required. Walking shoes are recommended.
