Event details

Kingsland's cultural history is reflected in this walk along New North Road looking at early commercial and institutional buildings and sites. The tour starts at the old Kiwi bacon site whose iconic sign was a local landmark for many years.

The tour then passes early factories including the distinctive Bridgens shoe factory, several church buildings, and sites. It then looks at the Kingsland shopping centre and the town square. Hear about several train and tram accidents and the Page family who were a dominant force in the area for many years.

You'll walk by the old Post Office and Theatre Royal. View the old Fire Station whose tower dominated the area. Finishing at Morningside Drive and learn about the old Mount Albert City Council building and the battle to have it built.
