Living in Waitākere Gardens, an independent retirement village, Mary Ann White often met people who had been children or teenagers during the Second World War.
Over the years they told her stories of their families, their young years and their life during the war. Starting with an oral history project, Mary Ann recorded those stories of her fellow village residents, who came from the Netherlands, Switzerland, England, Indonesia, New Zealand and the USA. The work culminated in her book 'Under One Roof: Memories of Youth in World War II'.
Mary Ann will talk about researching the subjects, recording the oral histories and getting her book to publication.
