Gottfried Lindauer (1839-1926) is one of New Zealand's most prolific portrait painters of the late 19th and early 20th century, and a key cultural figure in New Zealand's art history.
Following the recent success of the largest exhibition of Lindauer's portraits at the Auckland Art Gallery, a selection travelled to de Young Art Museum in San Francisco, in what is now the fourth major international showing of Lindauer's Māori portraits in recent years.
The Māori Portraits: Gottfried Lindauer's New Zealand – Te Hokinga Mai … we welcome them home and celebrate their return from their international tour.
