If there is an area of Auckland conducive to the creation of legends, it's the West. It's the type of place that has always attracted those seeking something – whether fame or fortune, refuge from society norms or a different path.
This exhibition arose from a Waitākere City Council project that put up billboards at Henderson Station to instil a sense of place. These visual stories about some extraordinary West Aucklanders are worthy of legendary status. They have been rendered by modern illustrators, some Westies, who themselves have become national treasures.
West Auckland Historical Society volunteers will also guide you through the kauri and clay displays at historic Mill Cottage.
