Sunday 30 September, 10.30am-3.30pm
Alberton
100 Mt Albert Rd, Mt Albert
Tickets $15
No bookings required
The Thames School of Mines will show you how to pan and extract gold from sand.
In 1850, the original owner of Alberton, Allan Kerr Taylor, joined the California Gold Rush. This is the first time that Alberton has held a re-enactment of the early gold prospectors in the USA and New Zealand.
You'll receive a bag containing instructions, a certificate, sand containing gold and a glass vial for panned gold. It's a fun and easy first step, showing children how to 'strike gold'.
A variety of gems will be available for sale.
History talk, 12 noon
There will be a talk on the history of gold mining and archaeology in the Auckland province.
