The faded utopias of family home movies are truly fascinating.

Before the arrival of iPhones and iPads, people used 16mm or 8mm home cameras. They recorded weddings, funerals and holidays, showing us a forgotten New Zealand. Often funny, often moving.

Former Mayor Sir Bob Harvey has been collecting these priceless treasures for years. He will showcase and narrate a special evening of these westie treasures from family archives, clubs and local movie makers.

A one-off inspirational event before the start of the West Auckland Heritage Conference. Abandoned Dreams takes place Saturday 7 October at Lopdell Theatre.
